Sex is a funny thing…

and im not talking about sex. You know, the physical activity between two (or more?) people that gets hot and sweaty real quick. I’m talking about sex. The physical anatomy of your body. Male, female, etc. Experiences related to sex is something i have seen and heard of (my girlfriend is majoring in sociology so i hear stories often), but something that I haven’t really experienced myself.

You know how on college campus’s there are a few people with clipboards trying to get people’s signatures for any number of reason? And of course these people with clipboards aren’t just restricted to college campus’s, but the experience i am sharing now happened to have taken place on a college campus. Specifically, Cal Poly Pomona.

The other day while walking to my usual hangout spot during lunch, a man came up to me holding a clip board. I was thinking “Oh no, he wants me to sign something. I better say ‘no’.” Trying to walk faster to get away, he said to me “Hey, can you help me out with something?” I stopped not being able to completely ignore him (its hard for me to really ignore someone). I ended up signing the thing (something to help lower car insurance) but only after he had asked continuously. He would not take ‘no’ for an answer. Persistent is just an understatement.  After signing, i continued on my way, shrugging this event off.

But today made me remember it.

While walking from lunch to the library (only 30 minutes ago) there was a girl sitting down on a chair with a fold-able table right in front of her. Her little table was just covered with stacks of clipboards. I walked passed her, thinking that she wouldn’t ask for my signature. After all, it looked like she was just taking a break from signature gathering, chilling under the tree while drinking her tea from starbucks and all. But suddenly i hear

“hey, girl in the white shirt. Wanna help me out with something?”

I looked down at my shirt, and lo-and-behold, im wearing white. I turned to her and started to walk her way (after all, i had specifically been called out. I just couldn’t back away now). She goes on about how she needs signatures to lower car insurance, but while she’s talking, im looking around and noticing that there are at least three people there signing the clipboards. They also happen to all be male. Now this is a wonder to me, because here was this girl, sitting down, sipping some tea under the tree just gathering signatures. She didn’t even have to move! All the clipboards she had had signatures on them. So many, she had to get a new clipboard out for me. I told her i had already signed something for lower car insurance the other day and asked if i should sign it again, but she said we can only sign once and that i was “awesome for trying”. I walked away and thought about the guy who had practically begged for my signature. All he had was a backpack (i assume for clipboards) one clipboard in hand (with very few signatures) and a couple of pens. No table, no chair, no tea. He had to walk around in the sun asking people for their time while all this girl had to do was say “hey, you, guy/girl in ___ shirt, wanna help me out?”

tl:dr? that’s okay. But what I learned today is: women can be scary powerful.
